Street Photography

The “theater” of the street is exciting and unpredictable in Rome, where the ancient architecture forms a backdrop to contemporary mini-scenes, interactions and colors. 

Work with photographer Mauro Benedetti, who trained with Alex Webb and Livio Mancini, to teach you about lighting, “hunting”, and even the body language of street photography.

In this workshop, participants will learn the best strategies for capturing street life respectfully and unobtrusively, while learning new techniques in observation and fast captures.

Focus

This workshop focuses on the street life of Rome, from the old-timers, shopkeepers and artisans to modern Italians, couples and tourists. We cover some of the most popular piazzas (squares) in the Eternal City, where old and new meet in unusual and highly colorful ways.

Who is this for ?

Hobbyists / amateurs / beginners : If you have limited or no experience with the art of street photography, this workshop gives you a foundational understanding and many opportunities for practicing in the exciting environment of the Rome’s historic center. Both practical and artful instruction provided.

Professionals / experienced photographers: This workshop deepens your knowledge of street photography techniques, body language and observation. We lead you to unusual locations on request (off-the-beaten-trail Roman markets and neighborhoods). Our photographers share information on Rome, and can answer highly technical and logistical questions about photography as well as provide tips for future shooting.

Students: Classes of up to 25 undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to take this workshop. Please inquire about our student and group pricing.


Equipment

Camera: Any digital camera

 Lenses: Normal and wide angle

Tripod: Optional (not necessary)

Equipment rental: available upon request.

3-hour workshop

Comfortable shoes are recommended.

Wallets and purses should be worn close to the body or inside clothing.
